Fashion Police is Not Your Friend
Foxtel subscribers, have you seen Fashion Police on the E Channel? Ouch. Whilst I certainly don’t love every outfit that graces the red carpet, and indeed very much dislike some, it’s a personal choice for the wearer. If they feel good, who are we to bring them down? Perhaps the wearer just wants to create a reaction, viewing it all as a game. A game that doesn’t necessarily reflect who they really are. Or maybe that person doesn’t care for fashion. Why should our wardrobe be “policed” by a select group of people anyway? This show has me wondering if it’s refreshingly honest to have a show that brings common coffee shop gossip sessions into the limelight, or just plain exploitative poor-taste and sometimes inarticulate media? Here’s a taste test from the Fashion Police:
“She looks dirty.”
“It ages her.”
“Garbage can chic.”
”Bleugh.”
”I feel like she’s worn it before.”
”This man is such an a~~.”
”It’s like they’re trying too hard to be weird. I’m not buying it.”
Shows like this can be enlightening to understand more about fashion and how to make informed choices for your colouring, shape and hair. Shows like this can also sound like a b*tch session by people who don’t necessarily make the most refined sartorial choices themselves. These same people can be on the red carpet interviewing and schmoozing with the very stars they then rip to shreds on the next Fashion Police episode. Ah yes, fashion is fickle.
But when kept in perspective it’s fun too isn’t it?
